The brief

To sympathetically convert a four bedroom, Edwardian villa into a state-of-the-art, specialist, multidisciplinary clinic.

Our approach

A thorough evaluation of the existing floor space was carried out and initial floor layout designs were proposed to Dr Stephen Barter. It soon became apparent that some re-modelling and an extension to the existing building would be necessary in order to fulfil Dr Stephen Barter's wish list. The subsequent revised floor plans included:-

• New disabled access WC for the ground floor level.
• Central sterilising/decontamination room for the first floor.
• Plant room for both vacuum and compressed air equipment.
• Re-modelled surgery layouts.

Following Dr Stephen Barter's "sign off" of the revised plans, we were then able to progress the following:-

• Preparation of all mechanical and electrical services drawings for use by the building contractors, in readiness for the equipment/cabinetry fit-out phase.
• Detailed design proposals for all dental cabinets, to include full equipment specifications and costs.
• Detailed construction drawings for manufacture of dental cabinets.

Materials

In order to facilitate the asepsis protocol for this specialist implant practice, Corian was used extensively for work surfaces in all three dental suites and decontamination room. Its attractive appearance, absence of joints and ease of cleaning made Corian the ideal choice; to include a large bespoke scrub sink with motion sensor infra red tap, for the surgical suite.

High gloss, solid Parapan acrylic cabinet fronts continued the aesthetic appeal and high end finish Dr Barter desired. A moisture resistant and exceptional durable solution was essential; ensuring the dental suites would retain their new look for years to come.

Equipment

A-dec chairs and equipment were chosen to provide the highest levels of patient comfort - essential for maintaining relaxation during long procedures. The unique 12 o'clock delivery consoles clearly defined clinical work areas for placement of instruments and materials. In particular, the ability to easily drape work zones for surgical procedures.
